COLUMBUS — Law enforcement officers from Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin will participate in the Speed Awareness Day enforcement campaign on Wednesday, July 27.
There will be a combined effort of zero-tolerance enforcement keeping a close eye on speeding in an effort to prevent crashes. High visibility enforcement reinforces driver compliance with posted speed limits.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speed is a contributing factor in one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. According to crash statistics in Ohio for the year 2021, 360 people died in Ohio in speed-related crashes with 32% of these crashes occurring between June and September.
