Nutrien Ag Solutions Leipsic/Ottawa earns certification

OTTAWA — Nutrien Ag Solutions Leipsic/Ottawa has achieved certified status for year four through the 4R Nutrient Stewardship Certification Program.

The certification program is an effort by the agriculture industry to reduce or prevent applied nutrients from running off fields into various waterways and eventually into the Western Basin of Lake Erie, which has contributed to water quality issues in Lake Erie. Facilities are required to meet certain program goals each year to retain certified status.

4R Nutrient Stewardship principles – Right source at the Right rate and Right time in the Right place – have been applied to approximately 2.5 million acres serviced by facilities in Ohio that have earned 4R nutrient Stewardship Certification.

The program was launched in March 2014 to address water quality concerns in Lake Erie. Originating in the Western Lake Erie Basin in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio in 2017 and internationally in 2019.
