Allen East, Leipsic schools receive grants for safety enhancements

COLUMBUS — Allen East Local Schools and Leipsic Schools were both recipients of grant money from the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission to improve safety at their schools.

Allen East will receive over $79, 000 and Leipsic will receive over $39, 000 to help with costly school safety upgrades. The grants are administered by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission in partnership with the Ohio School Safety Center. The K – 12 School Safety Grant Program is one of two programs launched in 2021.

The Campus Safety Grant Program will award Rhodes State College over $161,ooo dollars to improve safety on the campus. The Ohio School Safety Center was established in 2019. It is housed in the Ohio Homeland Security Division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

Funds will be used will be used to enhance the physical security of schools by using security cameras, public address systems, automatic door locks, and visitor badging systems.
