Lima woman avoids jail time after stabbing man

LIMA — Alexis Simone Mitchell, 26, of Lima, was spared jail time when she was sentenced Tuesday in Allen County Common Pleas Court.

Mitchell was initially charged with felonious assault with a deadly weapon, a felony of the second degree, for stabbing a Lima man earlier this year. On Sept. 29, Mitchell accepted a plea agreement offered by prosecutors that called for her to plead guilty to a reduced charge of attempted felonious assault, a third-degree felony.

According to Lima Police Department detective Steve Stechschulte, on July 5 police officers were dispatched to the corner of Pine and Albert streets in Lima in reference to a reported stabbing. At that location they found Andrew Forrest, the victim of a stabbing.

Forrest told police he had been inside a house at 515 E. Vine St. when a female entered the home and started “acting crazy.” Forrest said the woman, later identified as Mitchell, threatened to kill him and then produced a kitchen knife and stabbed him on the face and body. He suffered substantial injuries that required stitches, according to court documents.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Judge Jeffrey Reed sentenced Mitchell to three years of “intensive supervised” probation, ordered her to complete all recommended counseling, to undergo a psychological evaluation, and to pay court costs.
