Police probe fatal Cole Street stabbing

LIMA — One person was killed and another suffered serious injuries in a stabbing incident Monday morning after what police believed to be a domestic dispute west of the downtown area.

According to Detective Steve Stechschulte of the Lima Police Department, officers were dispatched to 114 N. Cole Street at about 9:30 a.m. in response to the report of a double stabbing.

Two individuals, both of whom were unconscious when police arrived, were taken to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s for treatment of their injuries.

The resident of the home, Austin Hill Sr., 47, died at the hospital of apparent stab wounds. The other person found inside the home, Amber Myers, 34, of Middle Point, was admitted to the hospital and was listed in serious condition Monday afternoon.

Stechschulte said the preliminary investigation suggests the victims were involved in a domestic dispute, during which sharp-edged weapons became involved and both Myers and Hill received stab wounds.

Hill’s body has been sent to the Lucas County Coroner for an autopsy, which will most likely occur sometime Tuesday morning. Police said there is a history of domestic violence between the estranged couple.

No other information was released by police officials Monday and the investigation was still underway. Stechschulte said further information into the incident will be released later this week.

A portion of Cole Street, south of High Street, was blocked off Monday morning as investigators probed the incident.
