Trial for former Allen East band director set for January

ADA — Three days have been set aside early next year in Hardin County Common Pleas Court for a jury trial for former Allen East band director Dennis Dellifield, who is facing numerous charges revolving around his alleged attempted use of a minor in nudity-oriented material.

Dellifield, 68, will stand trial Jan. 23-25. He was indicted July 26 on four counts of attempted pandering obscenity involving a minor, third-degree felonies; two counts of attempted illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material, third-degree felonies; and two counts of attempted illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented performance, first-degree misdemeanors.

If found guilty, Dellifield faces a maximum of 22 years in prison.

An investigation started in April by the Ada Police Department after a 16-year-old boy and his parents reported Dellifield requested photos of the boy’s genitalia. The teen also produced 44 letters from Dellifield with words of affection in them. The dates the letters were written were between July 25, 2016, and Feb. 13, 2017, after Dellifield left Allen East.

Ada Police Chief Michael Harnishfeger said in his report that Dellifield said he had been texting and sending letters with the boy and three other ex-students for some time, specifically for about a year and a half with the boy in question.

Dellifield resigned March 31, 2016. He had been with Allen East schools for 44 years.
