Mort named new Lima Senior principal

LIMA — With the departure of former Lima Senior High School principal Alison Van Gorder, who is succeeding Omer Schroeder as superintendent of Perry schools, the Lima City School Board voted Thursday to hire Fran Mort as the new Lima Senior principal during its meeting at South Science and Technology Magnet School.

Mort has been with the district since 1997, first serving as the school readiness resource coordinator before accepting her present position of principal of the Alternative School in 2009. She served as the social worker for the district’s elementary schools, according to a release from the district. Previously, Mort worked for three years at the Family Resource Center, working in collaboration with the school district. Mort was an intake supervisor at Allen County Children Services from 1983 to 1994.

Succeeding Mort as the Alternative School principal will be Darnell Collins, a Lima Senior alumnus who has been the assistant principal at West Middle School for the past five years. Collins began his teaching career in 2001, spending most of his time at South Middle School.
