ADA — Ohio Northern University has received top rankings for graduate earnings and value.

The Economist magazine ranked Ohio Northern University first among Ohio’s four-year liberal arts schools, and third overall in the state, in its first-ever set of college rankings. ONU placed 166 out of the more than 1,200 schools from across the nation.

Best Value Schools ranked Ohio Northern University No. 9 in its “30 Best Value Colleges and Universities in Ohio 2015” rankings published at http://bestvalueschools.com.

In the Economist report, ONU ranked in the 87th percentile, placing third behind Columbus College of Art and Design and the Cleveland Art Institute in Ohio.

The rankings are based on whether a college’s alumni fare better than expected in the labor market, as measured by earnings 10 years after starting school. Using a range of variables (a college’s location, its religious affiliation, its students’ SAT scores, the socioeconomic and racial mix of its student body, whether it has a business school, and more), The Economist predicted what graduates would earn.

According to the rankings, the expected earnings for ONU graduates are $50,459; its median earnings are $54,000 with an over-performance number of $3,841. The average median for an average college is $42,741.

Best Value Schools assigns a numerical score to each school after evaluating graduation rate, net price and 20-year return on investment. After adding the points, the rankings give each university a final score out of 200. The top 30 schools in the rankings have scores ranging from 91 to 164, and each has something different to offer in terms of its cost, quality and reputation. ONU finished with a final score of 128.43.

According to the website, “Students who are hoping to see a return on investment of nearly $300,000 over 20 years should consider Ohio Northern University, one of the best universities in Ohio when it comes to academic excellence and student success.”
