LIMA — Recent Waynesfield-Goshen graduate Connor Whitaker kept himself busy while a student at the small school.
He is now hoping to shape that small-school experience into a career in mechanical engineering.
“Waynesfield-Goshen has been great,” Whitaker said. “I had a lot of opportunities because of the setup of a small school. I was able to get a lot of one-on-one attention with teachers.”
Whitaker finished high school with a 3.75 GPA and will be attending Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
Whitaker was able to excel athletically as well at the school. A four-year participant in track, cross-country and indoor track, he placed fifth in the state meet in the 110 meter hurdles and also ran a leg of the fourth place 1,600-meter relay team. He was also a top high-jumper and sprinter for the team.
Whitaker was a member of the marching and concert bands and the choir. He was president of the National Honor Society, the Civil War Brigade, and of the senior class. He was also a member of the Waynesfield Farmers and Farmerettes 4-H Club.
In his spare time, Whitaker has been working on the restoration of a Ford F-100. He also enjoys riding his dirt bikes and four-wheelers.
For the video shown during the graduation ceremony, Whitaker collected all the photos of all 52 seniors and setting the viewing to music. He put the entire video together in less than a week.
Whitaker is the son of David and Kathy Whitaker and he has two older sisters.
