LIMA — Volunteers with 250 to 22,000 hours of service to Lima Memorial Health System were recognized Wednesday at the hospital’s annual Volunteer Awards Banquet.

Of the more than 300 volunteers who help out at Lima Memorial each day, 120 of them were on hand to receive some 150 awards at the banquet.

“These fantastic volunteers are an elite group, and we are very fortunate to have them at Lima Memorial,” said Janis Daley, the hospital’s volunteer coordinator. “Without those volunteers, it would be much harder for Lima Memorial to do many things.”

Among the 120 volunteers recognized at the banquet, nine received special awards based on their service to the hospital.

Duane Young, a volunteer who accumulated 1,000 hours of service in his first year, was given the Rookie of the Year Award. The Lifetime Award was presented to Linda Bosstick, a woman who has volunteered 10,500 hours of her time to Lima Memorial. The person who has accumulated the most hours of service was Marjorie Kiracofe, a woman in her mid-90s who has provided 22,000 hours of service to the hospital.

Six people were presented with the Volunteer of the Year Award, which recognizes those who have given 1,000 hours of service in one year. This year’s winners were Jerry Klapp, Betty Sholler, Linda Bosstick, Barb Ramlow, Grace Place and Elaine Fisher.

According to a news release, the 300-plus volunteers at Lima Memorial donated more than 72,000 hours of combined service in 2015.

Daley said it’s important to recognize these volunteers for all the work they do for the hospital, its staff and patients throughout the year.

“This is a great opportunity for Lima Memorial to show our over 300 volunteers how much we appreciate everything that they have done,” she said. “They are amazing stewards of giving back, and they do anything and everything that will benefit the hospital and the community.”

The banquet was held in conjunction with National Volunteer Week, an annual celebration that promotes volunteerism.
