LIMA — The Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce announced Monday that 18 finalists will vie for an assortment of awards at the chamber’s annual gala in May.
At a chamber news conference, programs director Adah Ellerbrock revealed that three area businesses, nonprofits and industry leaders were chosen as finalists in six categories: Small Business of the Year, Non-Profit Agency of the Year, Woman Owned Business of the Year, Emerging Business of the Year, Young Leader of the Year and the Athena Award.
The winner of each award will be announced at the 14th annual Awards Gala, which will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 4 at the University of Northwestern Ohio Event Center.
Young Leader of the Year Award finalists include Chad King with Citizens National Bank, Phillip Trueblood of Stifel, Nicolaus & Co., and Jacquelyn Beckner, who represents The Ohio State University.
Finalists for the Emerging Business of the Year Award are Perennial Glow Spa, Sara’s Sweets and Visual Eyes.
Woman Owned Business of the Year finalists include Prestige Tax & Business Service, The Dough Hook and Women’s Health for Life.
For the Non-Profit of the Year Award, Family Promise, the Lima Family YMCA and West Ohio Food Bank were named as finalists.
This year’s Athena Award finalists are Judy Wells of Apollo Career Center, Dr. Nicole Nelson of Lima Radiological Associates, and Erin Hardesty of Union Bank.
The last group of finalists, competing for Small Business of the Year, include Real Living CCR, T&D Interiors and Westrich Furniture.

Tickets for chamber members are $45 each and $320 for a table of eight. Tickets for future members are $50 each and $360 for a table of eight.
The theme of this year’s gala is “Business Empires — The Force Awakens,” and the attire is described as “galactic formal.”
