ELIDA — The American Township Fire Department was called out to a vacant house in flames Saturday night in Allentown.

The department was called to 4946 Allentown Road just after 8 p.m. after reports of smoke and flames coming out of the house. The department arrived to find smoke billowing out of the upper story of the house. The fire was quickly extinguished, but firefighters remained on the scene to extinguish lingering hot spots in the structure.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, which forced traffic to be diverted down Copus Road in the vicinity of the Allentown Road Shell gas station.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Office and the Shawnee Township Fire Department also responded to the fire, which remained under investigation late Saturday.
