LIMA — The Allen County Regional Bomb Squad was called to the federal building in downtown Lima on Monday morning after a suspicious package was found.
According to a post on the Lima Police Department’s Facebook page, “the package has been removed from the building. It is being transported to a remote location to be investigated further. Traffic in the vicinity of the Federal Building is now open again.”
The Allen County Sheriff’s Office said it would have more information at about 8 a.m. Tuesday and referred other questions to the Lima Police Department because they had jurisdiction.
Damon Engelman of the Lima Police Department refused to release any information on the incident and directed questions to the Sheriff’s Office despite his department being the one that handled the call.
Police officials told residents on Facebook to “check with the agencies inside the building to ensure they are open” before arriving for any appointments Monday afternoon.
