Country music legend Merle Haggard to perform in Lima on Oct. 22

LIMA — Country music living legend Merle Haggard is coming to the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center on Oct. 22.

Tickets go on sale to VMCC members at 10 a.m. Tuesday and to the general public at noon Wednesday. Tickets can be purchased at http://limaciviccenter.com, by phoning 419-224-1552, or in person at the box office. Prices range from $35 to $65.

The 78-year-old singer/songwriter/guitarist/fiddler writes and sings about the struggles and hardships of a working man’s life. His first top 10 hit was in 1964, “(My Friends Are Gonna Be) Strangers.” In 1966, Haggard reached No. 1 on the country charts for the first time with “I’m A Lonesome Fugitive.” More than 30 other No. 1 hits followed, including “Mama Tried,” “Okie from Muskogee,” “If We Make It Through December,” and “I Think I’ll Just Stay Here and Drink.”

He’s won numerous Grammys and Country Music Awards, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994. Haggard keeps an active touring schedule. He was recently in Ohio, playing in Warren on Sept. 10 and Toledo on Sept. 9.
