LIMA — WAR 19 & HOF 10 is slated to celebrate the local wrestling franchise’s 19th anniversary on Saturday, May 21, with matches hitting the mats at 7 p.m. at Lima’s Empowered Sports Center.
The venue, previously known as Northland Bowling Lanes, 1730 N. Union St., will open its doors at 4 p.m. for VIP members and at 4:45 p.m. for the general public.
WAR, which stands for Wrestling & Respect, will host seven major tilts: The Bunkhouse Tag Team Brawl, WAR Women’s Title match, Jeremy McLane Memorial Battle Royal, Respect Title Match (a.k.a. Kendo Stick on a Pole), War Tag Team Title Match, Dog Collar Match and the WAR Title/Ladder showdown pitting Voodoo King Mojo McQueen against champ Aaron Williams.
In the second contest of the evening, champion Shawna Reed squares off against Harley Fairfax with Jexy Blakk for the women’s crown.
“This is the biggest show of the year,” said Thomas Williams, owner and promoter of WAR Wrestling. “The fans are as close as possible to see good entertainment for all ages.”
Advance tickets for WAR 19 & HOF 10 general admission, which cost $12 apiece (or $22 VIP), can be purchased at Groamy’s CDs and Tapes or online at www.warwrestling.com.
The Hall of Fame ceremony is on tap at 5:30 p.m.with a quartet of inductees: Hardcore Craig, Brandon Blaze, “Sick & Twisted” Zakk Spadez and Robby “Super” Starr.
The event’s first four rows were sold out as of Monday, according to Williams, who referred to the affair as “The Past, The Present and The Future” of WAR.
Paloma Starr, Aerie Alexander and Rick Toms are expected to be among the additional attendees Saturday night.
The spectacle’s “platinum-level” sponsors include Lima City Schools, Shehds Lighting, M&N Curves, Custom Audio Concepts and Somewhere in Time.
