BLUFFTON — Bluffton is the place to be Saturday.
This summer’s second Bluffton Discovery Days will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, highlighting 12 local small businesses and all that the village has to offer.
“This is brand new this summer, and it’s an idea the merchants had to create a more festive atmosphere for shopping,” explained Paula Scott, CEO of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce. “Everybody has approached it slightly differently. There will be some sidewalk sales, some places where you can earn gift cards if you spend a certain amount — You can get some really good deals and you’ll find a great variety of shops, too.”
Discovery Days will include offers from Bike Crazy LLC, The Black Lab Trading Company, Bluffton Senior Center, Book Reviews, Boutique 415/Polished, Dough Hook Meat Market, Et Cetera Thrift Store, Roots by Strattons, Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn Co., Ten Thousand Villages, Town and Country Flowers and Twisted Whisk Cafe.
Meanwhile, the farmers market will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon and Bluffton Cars and Coffee will be on the other end of Main Street from 8 to 11 a.m.
The first Discovery Day event was hosted on July 25, and Scott said the turnout to downtown Bluffton was great.
“I had one business tell me she had the best Saturday in July that she’d ever had,” Scott said. “It wasn’t just better than this summer, but better than potentially any summer. I think people are appreciating what they have locally whereas they might be going to some tourist town to enjoy themselves. We want to step into that breach and provide a really enjoyable day for people.”
Julie Stratton, owner of The Black Lab Trading Company echoed that.
“I would say over 50% of people I’ve never seen around Bluffton before. I’ve been in business here for 22 years, so I have a pretty good gauge of our customer base and there really were a lot of people I’d never seen here,” she said. “We got a lot of out-of-town shoppers who maybe knew where Bluffton is located but didn’t realize we had all of this — the shops you can visit, we have a lot of good restaurants — you could spend half a day in Bluffton and have lots of things to do. That’s why we wanted to call it Bluffton Discovery Days.”
