VAN WERT — The “World’s Longest Yard Sale” will once again be coming through the area Aug. 6 through 9 with major stops in Van Wert and Celina.

Due to the nature of the event, the 690-mile long yard sale along Route 127 will go on nearly as usual.

Mike Poling, manager with the Van Wert County Fairgrounds, tagged as one of Ohio’s major vendor stops, said they are expecting nearly as many vendors as last summer.

“The vendor response has been good, and we’re even going to have some new ones this year. We’ve probably had about 10 or 12 that have told us they weren’t coming this year because of COVID-19 but would be back next year,” Poling said. “We’ve had some vendors drop out in our buildings, which sounds terrible, but it’s actually a good thing because it’s allowing us to space out our vendors in the buildings and get a little better flow. There has been lots of interest in our outside spots, and that only continues to grow.”

Along with the fairgrounds, Tracy’s Country Flea Market in Van Wert and Niekamp Farm Market in St. Henry are marked as “major vendor stops” on the 127 Yard Sale website. A full route map, both in digital and printable form, can also be found on the site.

In addition to route maps, the site offers the following yardsalers packing checklist courtesy of Robin Brown, a 12-year yardsale veteran:

Packing checklist

• Cooler with refreshments and snacks

• Suitcase for clothes and treasures

• Sunscreen or hat

• Hand wipes and sanitizer

• Maps and GPS

• Mini trash bags for the car

• Tote or packing materials to store found goodies

• Rain ponchos

• Tools including flathead and Phillips head screwdriver and adjustable wrench to assemble or disassemble items

• First aid kit

• Cash

With the route extending through six states, organizers are encouraging yardsalers to follow each state’s guidelines and recommend bringing a face mask with them so it can be used as needed. There are even “World’s Longest Yard Sale” masks available just for the occasion, along with other merchandise.

Additional recommendations

• Don’t touch items for sale unnecessarily

• Wash hands frequently

• Be patient and polite

Area yardsalers will be able to keep on trucking to find hidden treasures with the following week’s Lincoln Highway Buy-Way Yard Sale set for Aug. 13, 14 and 15 with stops in Convoy, Van Wert, Delphos, Lima, Cairo, Gomer, Beaverdam and Ada. Route maps by county can be found online.
