NEW BREMEN — The Heritage Trails Park District Cabin Fever Hike Series will once again kick off this weekend.
The monthly hike series will span through April so hikers can enjoy the seasonal and changing landscapes and critters.
“The real reason I think folks should get out and about even though it’s chilly is that we can all get cabin fever, that’s why our hike series is named that,” said Terry McDonald of the park district. “It’s great for family time outdoors away from electronics. We need to get out in nature more during the course of the week — it’s good for your state of mind and physically for you.”
The hikes are also set at different towpaths along the Miami and Erie Canal so participants can experience the canal at length.
“If you participate in all four hikes, you will get to see four different sections of the Miami Erie Canal towpath,” McDonald said. “That trail is historical with markers and different things that are educational along the sections that we walk.”
