VAN WERT — A unique tribute to the band Queen will take the stage at Niswonger Performing Arts Center this weekend.
”We Will Rock You” is a musical depicting a futuristic society where rock and roll is banned, all set to the classic Queen hits.
“Queen’s concerts are not just a show, it’s a theatrical experience, so that’s what they tried to do with ‘We Will Rock You,’” explained cast member Vanessa Mitchell. “It features all of the hits like ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘We are the Champions,’ but it also follows a unique storyline.”
The story follows the Bohemians, a group of rebels led by Scaramouche and Galileo, as they fight the Killer Queen’s all-powerful society full of bleak conformist reality.
Mitchell, who plays a teacher and is also part of the ensemble said the performance will appeal to both Queen lovers and lovers of musicals in general. The music director of the show worked directly with Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor to make sure the music is as authentic as possible.
“If you want to come see the spectacle of music, dancing and singing then this will be great for you, but it’s also great for people who just love Queen music,” she explained. “People who go for the music are pleasantly surprised that it’s not just a cover band … Our leads are incredible vocalists and performers, and I think they definitely do the music justice and people are happy.”
