LIMA — One of the Rally in the Square favorites will return to Lima this weekend.
Gates for The Menus will open at 5 p.m., and you should get there early if you want prime seating.
“Traditionally, it’s one of the largest gathering and crowd-pleasing bands,” said Sally Windle, executive director. “I spoke with Jimi (Orwig), the keyboard artist yesterday, and he is preparing a really wild show.
“They’re a great party band and they traditionally come well prepared with costumes and acrobatics,” Windle continued. “They really like Lima because they’re very interactive. They can work with the crowd and the crowd can work back with them.”
The Cincinnati-based band formed originally in 1893 and has changed lineups several times, but its regional following has continued. The current edition features Orwig, Timothy Goldrainer on lead vocals, Steve Chiodi on lead guitar, Jonathan Grooms on bass guitar and original member Brandon Ryan on drums.
According to the band’s website, its name is derived from the hundreds of menus collected from founding members Ryan, Mark Wills and Steve Perrman’s favorite restaurants while playing from Ryan’s family basement.
Fat Kid BBQ will be on hand with its traditional barbecue menu as well as new selections of chicken. Adding to the entertainment, ArtSpace will have two interactive murals for concert-goers to make their contribution to. The 4-foot-by-8-foot boards will be throughout the Rally for participants to add whatever they’d like.
Those murals will be on display at the newly added Sept. 13 “thank you” Rally with the band Probable Cause.
