LIMA — Cirque Italia puts a new spin on a classic circus.
Its Water Circus combines the standard lineup full of aerials, juggling and contortion with a water curtain design feature.
“The stage has a digital water curtain that comes down so it marries light and sound into the performance,” said Sarah Kessler, Public Relations and Media Representative. “There are only two other stages that are similar, in Las Vegas and Dubai, but they’re not portable like ours are.”
The water curtain surrounds the stage so performers aren’t in the water, but rather framed by it with designs.
“When you see the stage with the water, with the performance going on, it’s something you don’t usually see anywhere,” Kessler said. “It adds to the visual appeal to the performance and the dramatic aspects of the performance.”
Each show will include three aerial acts, the Aerial Perch Act, Mermaid Aerial Straps act and Aerial Net Act, as well as a Chinese Pole act, the Wheel of Death, Slack Wire act and the Justin Bieber Clown Act.
Anita and Karchy Zeman, previously seen on the show “America’s Got Talent,” will perform separate BMX and roller-skating acts while Emiliano Fusco and Maximiliano Fusco will wow the audience with Guinness World Record holding juggling.
The Water Circus was formed by Manuel Rebecchi, whose aunt Moira Orsei had the largest traveling circus in Europe, according to Kessler.
“He grew up in Italy with a great appreciation for circus performing arts and he loves the water, so he came over to the U.S. and wanted to do something different and incorporate water with these traditional circus acts, but he wanted to keep it animal-free.”
