LIMA — Nationally known award-winning Southern Gospel group Triumphant Quartet will be the main performer for this year’s Gospel Singing Tent during the Allen County Fair.
They are one of nine acts who will perform at 7 p.m. daily. Admission to the tent is free, but fairgoers must pay admission at the main fair gates. The quartet will perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Allen County Fairgrounds at the first tent on the right from the front walk-in gate off of 309.
It is the 39th year for the Gospel Singing Tent and the third year Triumphant Quartet will perform during the fair, according to Gene Derringer, Gospel Singing Tent treasurer and secretary.
The concerts are made possible from financial donations from individuals, organizations, churches and businesses.
“They are one of the best Southern Gospel quartets in the United States,” Derringer said. “The purpose and mission is to spread the saving knowledge and understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ to those saved and unsaved through the playing and singing of gospel music.”
He said the goal is to provide a little comfort for those who are hurting, some entertainment for those who want to sit down and rest and for someone walking by.
According to the group’s website, the group began in 2003 when the four friends first walked on to the stage of the Louise Mandrell Theater in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, as a headlining talent. Their smooth harmonies and rich quartet sound quickly gained them national attention, recognition and concert demand.
The group has had multiple number one songs and several others have climbed the Top 40 music charts and were voted fan-favorite artist of the year for 2018.
Singers include David Sutton, tenor singer, Eric Bennett, bass singer, Clayton Inman, lead singer, and Scotty Inman, baritone singer.
