LIMA — Downtown Lima is calling all artists and creative minds alike to help them spruce up the sidewalks as the Chalk Walk returns.
Community members of all ages can sign up for the Chalk Walk by reserving a spot in front of their favorite downtown business online at www.visitdowntownlima.com.
Current businesses registered include Alter Ego Comics, Beauty by Jill Salon and Spa, Joey’s Italian Subs, Level IV Salon, The Meeting Place on Market, Perennial Glow Spa, Pointe of Joy and The Wingate by Wyndham.
Each will be equipped with basic chalk provided by Downtown Lima Inc., so the event is free for all participants.
Artists can begin their chalk pieces anytime today and must be finished by noon Saturday for judging. Each business will select one winner for a prize valued at $25.
Jennifer Brogee, owner of The Meeting Place on Market, is one of the fan favorites returning this year. Their $25 prize will be a gift card so the winner can enjoy some food or a goodie from their gift shop, Shop for Good.
“As a downtown business, we love to collaborate on events that invite people downtown, that encourage them to move about the city and see all the hidden gems we have in downtown Lima,” Brogee said.
Aubree Kaye, Executive Director of Downtown Lima Inc., said the event is a great way to add some color to the town and also have the community members engage small businesses.
“It’s a great way to decorate all of the sidewalks downtown, where there is so much cement and flat space,” she said. “Small businesses working together can have more of an impact. We like to provide the opportunity to do events like this at low cost to bring people downtown to different businesses and let them have a fun day of shopping as well.”
