VAN WERT — Rubber ducks will once again take over Van Wert as the Town Creek Live festival returns to downtown Saturday.
As usual, the duck derby will headline the fundraising event for Wassenberg Art Center and Historic Downtown Van Wert. The winner of the duck derby will take home $1,500, with second place earning $400 and third place $100. Adopt a duck for $5 or a quack-pack of six for $25 at www.wassenbergartcenter.org.
“I think Historic Downtown Van Wert and the Wassenberg Art Center recently have formed this partnership of probably two of the most hardworking organizations to increase the vibrance of the community,” said Wassenberg Director Hope Wallace. “We are constantly having events and providing things for people to do and celebrating our local community and identity.”
This year two new tournaments have also been added. A cornhole tournament will begin at noon and an axe throwing booth for contests will be open from 3 to 9 p.m.
Throughout the day, there will be gourmet food trucks, craft beer and wine and interactive art exhibits. Live entertainment will be provided by folk group Matthew Keeler and Friends at 3 p.m., Cleveland-based pop/rock group Vanity Crash from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and headlining is classic rock group Holbrook Bros. Band beginning at 9 p.m.
PuppetART Theatre of Detroit will have two performances of “Kolobok,” a Russian version of the “Little Gingerbread Man.” The group will also have hands-on puppet making workshops at 4:45 and 6 p.m.
