LIMA — This year’s Westgate Charity Car Show will be held at Apollo Career Center due to its steady increase of participants year by year.

Co-chairs Andy Maravola and John Waller are hoping for around 400 registrations this year. At last year’s show at the Lima Auto Mall, they had around 300.

“We started this at Lima Senior when [Waller’s] daughter was in the band,” Maravola explained. “We had it there a couple years before moving to Westgate [Entertainment Center].”

The show then outgrew Westgate’s space once Dunkin’ Donuts was built and moved to the Lima Auto Mall, where it has been held the previous two years.

“We talked about moving the show, and [Apollo] called and wanted to host it,” Maravola said. “We needed a bigger venue, and that’s about as big as we can get around here.”

At this year’s show, they will be honoring Joe Lombardo, who recently suffered a stroke.

“All the car guys know Joe,” Maravola said. “He’s got a ‘57 Chevy that’s immaculate. He went to all the car shows and helped out on our car show. We’re going to give him a nice plaque for being a car guy and for being a very good friend.”

Joseph Simone will also be recognized, as well as the late Chuck McClurg and Harry Swygart, for their contributions and dedication to the car community.

Food from Milano Café and Westgate Entertainment Center will be available, as well as barbecue, brats and ice cream options.

There is no pre-registration required for car entry.
