LIMA — Standouts from the shows “American Idol” and “The Voice” will perform in a free concert to launch the Curtain Call Summer Series at Veterans Memorial Civic Center.
The kickoff concert will feature Ohio-native Crystal Bowersox, “American Idol” season nine runner-up, and Dan Shafer, season 11 contestant on “The Voice,” who made it to the “battle” rounds.
Rustgaze Records’ Ledge Dwellers will also perform, giving concert-goers a taste of what’s to come for the remainder of the series, said Jeremy Martinez, Civic Center Foundation director of development.
“The summer series is just an opportunity that we have to showcase local artists but also to just spread awareness about the foundation,” Martinez explained.
The lineup is still being determined, but several artists from Lima’s own Rustgaze Records will be slated.
“We love being able to showcase the label and being community partners,” Martinez said. “We know that we have a substantial following already from those in the community since the Civic Center was established in ‘84. It’s something that has been in the community and continues to help local artists and groups of people to enhance their audience and diversity with some of the different groups.”
The free concerts will be held every Wednesday through July 31 on the Happy Daz Patio outside of the Civic Center.
“If the community wants to have a great time this summer, they should attend,” Martinez said. “It’s in the middle of the week, so come after work, however you’re dressed, and enjoy the community.”
