LIMA — The St. Rose Festival will once again unofficially kick off the summer this weekend. Festival chair Mary Paton said that’s right where they like to be.
“We like to say we’re the first one, so we can kick off the season to get people ready for summer now that school is almost out,” Paton said. “We’re excited to invite the community to our campus because we have a lot of new stuff to show off.
“We have our new gym and a new parish hall. We love to open the grounds to the community at large, especially people in the neighborhood.”
Saturday will be adult night from 5 p.m. to midnight, with the Indoorfins playing from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.
Adults can then bring the kids along and enjoy family day from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Family day will feature live music all day from Mischief and Someone’s Kids, games, kids rides and raffle and auction items for all ages.
Raffle prizes and auction items include a $5,000 grand prize, golf packages, tickets for Ohio State, Reds and FC Cincinnati, as well as family fun packages put together by students of St. Rose.
Also new this year, the festival will have shredded chicken sandwiches and pizza from 20th Century Lanes to go along with its usual menu of hot dogs, bratwursts, hamburgers and “the biggest and best wings around.” Harlan’s BBQ, out of Pandora, will have chicken dinners available on Sunday only.
“What we like to say is it’s a family event with a lot of volunteers from our parish, and we have our school families come in and help,” Paton said. “It’s a relaxing time to come out and be with friends, have great food, good fellowship and fun.”
