LIMA — Teachers are not just those who can’t do, and the Evening With the Arts is a chance for teachers at Lima schools to show off their craft.
The show, which has been going on for well over 20 years, typically features about 20 staff members from the school district in their visual and performing arts.
Doors will open early for interaction with the teachers/artists, followed by a recital format — which can include vocalists, instrumentalists, dancers and drama performers.
Kristin Lee, fine arts instructional team leader at Lima schools, said this is a way for the staff to show they not only can “talk the talk, but walk the walk.”
“It’s often assumed that those in education are the ones who are not talented in the arts or other areas in which they may be teaching in,” Lee said. “With Lima City Schools, it’s very important when we hire arts staff that we employ artists and performers who teach. They understand their craft and can keep it current, and this is an exhibit of that.”
