LIMA — Veterans Memorial Civic Center will be screening “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” tonight.
The cult classic from 1975 will include a volunteer shadow cast from Encore Theatre during the film and a costume contest prior.
“We are glad to partner up with Encore Theatre for the presentation,” said Jeremy Martinez, director of development for the Civic Center Foundation. “They were excited to hear what we were doing and offered their services.”
Martinez said since the evening is geared toward adults with the R-rated movie, there is no limitation on the costume contest, and guests are invited to get creative. The best costume will win tickets to another show at the Civic Center.
There will also be starter packages available for $5 for those experiencing the show for the first time featuring slices of bread and everything needed to be a full participant in the show, Martinez said.
“This month, our committee chose ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ because it is such a unique and fun experience with live interactions by the audience,” stated Abe Ambroza, chief executive officer of Civic Center, in an email.
“Major U.S. cities have these performances almost monthly, if not weekly, and they get sold out,” Martinez said. “We thought it would be a fun opportunity to bring to the Lima community.”
No water guns or rice are allowed. Toast is welcome, but cannot be thrown. Movie-themed concessions and drinks will be available, and the cash bar will be open.
