LIMA — Residents looking for ways to ring in the New Year have their pick of options this year.

Lima Symphony Orchestra

Jeans ‘n Classics will be performing music from the group Abba at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Jeans ‘n Classics is a Canada-based rock band that collaborates with symphonies to bring audiences familiar pieces for over 20 years.

“Abba is so much fun, and we always try to do something more light and festive on New Year’s Eve,” said Lima Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Elizabeth Brown-Ellis. “With the second ‘Mamma Mia!’ movie coming out earlier this year, it seemed like an appropriate time to do it. There has been a real resurgence of this really great music.”

Peter Brennan, founder and owner of Jeans ‘n Classics, said the audience can expect a whole new musical picture — a heightened experience from the average rock band or orchestra alone.

“The concept of what we’re doing is making a gel of the two different areas so somebody at the end of the night will go away with their Abba fix, but also the enjoyment of the orchestra,” Brennan said.

Tickets are $30 and can be bought at the orchestra’s website, limasymphony.com, or by calling the box office at 419-222-5701.

Wassenberg Art Center

Join Distant Cousinz for the Ballroom Blitz party from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m The band, voted the best band in Toledo, offers music from all genres.

“We cover country, rock, R&B, Motown and every other genre,” said band member Corey “Big C” Coley. “We all bring our own style, creativity and skill to the table and put our spin on it.”

The ball drop will be accompanied with appetizers, desserts and prizes provided by Van Wert Manor.

Tickets are $15 for members and $20 for non-members and can be found on the center’s website, wassenbergartcenter.org. Tables of eight are also available for $200, which includes a bottle of wine.

Bluffton Swiss Caroling

The Swiss Community Historical Society will be doing New Year’s Eve caroling from 4 to 5:45 p.m. Carols will be sung in both German and English on a tour across Bluffton senior living centers. The group will begin a Maple Crest, move to Willow Ridge and end the performance at Mennonite Memorial Home.

The event is open to all participants. Music and pronunciation guides for German songs will be provided.
