LIMA — Residents looking for ways to ring in the New Year have their pick of options this year.
Lima Symphony Orchestra
Jeans ‘n Classics will be performing music from the group Abba at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Jeans ‘n Classics is a Canada-based rock band that collaborates with symphonies to bring audiences familiar pieces for over 20 years.
“Abba is so much fun, and we always try to do something more light and festive on New Year’s Eve,” said Lima Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Elizabeth Brown-Ellis. “With the second ‘Mamma Mia!’ movie coming out earlier this year, it seemed like an appropriate time to do it. There has been a real resurgence of this really great music.”
Peter Brennan, founder and owner of Jeans ‘n Classics, said the audience can expect a whole new musical picture — a heightened experience from the average rock band or orchestra alone.
“The concept of what we’re doing is making a gel of the two different areas so somebody at the end of the night will go away with their Abba fix, but also the enjoyment of the orchestra,” Brennan said.
Tickets are $30 and can be bought at the orchestra’s website, limasymphony.com, or by calling the box office at 419-222-5701.
