LIMA — Five-time Grammy award winners The Oak Ridge Boys will be making a stop in Lima on their annual Christmas tour.
The band, consisting of members Joe Bonsall, Duane Allen, William Lee Golden and Richard Sterban, features a mix of traditional and contemporary songs, ranging from religious to fun holiday tunes from any of their six best-selling Christmas albums.
Jeremy Martinez, director of development at Veterans Memorial Civic Center, said the local organizers wanted to help celebrate the Christmas season in a country fashion.
In regard to claiming the prime real estate spot in the tour the weekend before Christmas, Martinez said it just worked out that way.
“It just happened to fit into their schedule,” Martinez said. “They’ve been to Lima before and thought it was a good community to perform in.”
This marks the band’s 29th annual Shine The Light On Christmas Tour. The performance will begin with 40 minutes of hit songs, followed by their full production Christmas show, which will feature everything from Santa Claus to the birth of Jesus.
Martinez said the Civic Center has sold about 900 tickets as of Tuesday and is expecting over 1,000 people in attendance total.
The Oak Ridge Boys were recognized in October by the Gospel Music Association for their song “Dinner On The Ground” recorded with bluegrass duo Little Roy & Lizzy. The song earned them the GMA Dove Award for Bluegrass/Country/Roots Recorded Song of the Year, marking the Oak Ridge Boys’ 12th Dove Award.
