LIMA — It’s a seasonal tradition that Lima area families have enjoyed for years.
The Lima Symphony Orchestra’s “Bells, Brass and Bows” concert is a delight for those looking to get into the spirit of the holidays.
“This is one of our most popular concerts all season long. People look forward to it. It’s definitely become a local holiday family tradition, so tickets are selling fast,” said Sara Chongson, marketing and education coordinator for the Lima Symphony Orchestra.
The concert should have something for everyone.
“For this concert, we do a really nice mix of a classical Christmas and a pops Christmas. So we have ‘Deck the Halls,’ ‘The First Noel,’ ‘Sleighride,’ plus we do a sing-a-long of our favorite carols and hymns. This year we have selections from Vivaldi’s ‘Magnificat,’ we’re doing Rachmaninoff’s ‘Ave Maria’ and also there will be a little bit of ‘The Nutcracker,’ which even though it’s popular, it’s more of a classical Christmas piece,” she said.
As an added bonus, the Lima Symphony Chorus will perform.
“Our audience always looks forward to hearing their beautiful voices, so that’s something that’s a little different about this concert that adds another element,” she said.
“We are just so fortunate to have such a beautiful downtown, especially at Christmastime. The Civic Center is decorated so beautifully, and our staff really goes to great lengths to make the stage look festive. It’s a wonderful family experience,” she said.
