LIMA — If you haven’t been to the Lima Symphony Orchestra for a while, Saturday’s performance may be the experience that changes your mind about classical music.
“American Elegance is really a celebration of our varied and rich musical history that defined American music, so they’re all very expressive, they’re very iconic pieces that most people who come to the concert will be familiar with,” said Sara Chongson, marketing and education coordinator for the Lima Symphony Orchestra.
A guest pianist performing with the symphony will help bring the music alive.
“We’ve got ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ by George Gershwin, which is a bluesy kind of free-flowing piece. When it was originally performed was a very different type of music for the concert hall that is still one of the most popular pieces in American music. We have a fabulous guest pianist, Michael Chertock, who is actually just down the road and works for the University of Cincinnati but he has an incredible career so we are so lucky to have him doing this with us and he’s also playing on variations on ‘I Got Rhythm,’ another Gershwin piece.”
This concert is part of Maestro Crafton Beck’s farewell season.
