LIMA — Lima Allen County Neighborhoods In Partnership will hold its first Dancing with Our Stars fundraiser Saturday night at the Elks Lodge.
When Jessie Roark took over as president of LACNIP, the non-profit needed a fundraiser.
“Our stars come from the local community. They are all members that have been active in making a difference in our community. They are paired with somebody who has been dancing for quite some time. Not all of them are professional dancers, but all dancers. The celebrities and their dance partners put a routine together and perform it Saturday at the competition at the Elks,” said Roark.
There are seven teams: Maha Zehery from Changing Seasons is dancing with Chase Battle; LeAndra Johnson from Fresh-n-Faded is dancing with Kayla Peterson; DeBorah Woodley from American Legion/Veterans Service Commission is dancing with David Barrera; Jamie Dixon, 5th Ward City Council, is dancing with Shana Taylor; Aubree Kaye from Downtown Lima Inc. is dancing with Dean Hays; Dr. Fred Arzola from Rhodes State College is dancing with Stephanie Moran; and Jeremy Martinez from Veterans Memorial Civic Center is dancing with Kelli Wright.
The dancers raise funds with donations and sponsorships. The goal is to raise the most funds.
Judges are Bobbie Nevarez, Angie Schweitzer and Sydney Davis. Emcees for the night are Ambyr Rose and Eddie Saunders.
“It just all came together. We wanted something that’s not been done in Lima. We wanted to do something that would be fun,” said Roark. “This is our first year, and we plan on making it an annual fundraiser.”
