VAN WERT — For those looking for a one-stop destination for fun this weekend, the Van Wert County Fairgrounds is the place. There will be food, entertainment and yard sales happening in Van Wert with the Van Wert Ribfest and 127 Yard Sales.
It’s no coincidence that both events are occurring on the same weekend.
“We’ve planned it that way from the very beginning. And it does make a difference. We have a lot of people who do the yard sales and stay in the Van Wert area and they look for something a little different to do in the evening, and so it’s just a good event,” said Larry Lee, executive director of the Van Wert Convention and Visitors Bureau.
There are six rib vendors and six other food vendors, ensuring a variety of food. On Saturday there is a Wiffle ball tournament, cornhole tournament, a car show, a 4-H pig race, concerts and more.
The 127 Yard Sale has been around for about 30 years and comes right through Van Wert.
“We have been participating for about the last 10 years. It really brings thousands of people to our area. We’ve seen over the years just about every state represented. People say they’re finding unusual things, but it’s also the fun of just meeting people and having conversations, that really makes it exciting as well,” said Lee.
