HARROD — The 30th annual Harrod Pork Rind Heritage Festival is this weekend.
The festival committee has added new events this year.
“Actually we’re doing a pig drop where you buy these (rubber) pigs and there’s a number on them and when you drop them you win, what is like a 50/50,” said Frances Bowsher, vice president and in charge of vendors.
Other new events include a free bike giveaway and an animal show by Johnny Appleseed.
“We are famous for the world famous pork rinds and those come from Rudolph Foods in Westminster. And so everybody just comes back for those,” said Bowsher.
Entertainment is ongoing throughout the two-day festival, starting with the Lima Beane Chorus performing on the main stage.
“We have two great bands, a band coming in from Indiana called The Bull Dogs will perform from 8 p.m. to midnight (today). They play all ‘50s and ‘60s music. The band Another Round, from Wapakoneta, will be playing from 8 to midnight on Saturday,” said Bowsher. “The Jive Turkeys will play from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday as well.”
The historical society will announce raffle winners at 6 p.m. Saturday. They are giving away a smart TV, three guns and a lawnmower. Tickets will be sold at the red building in Railroad Heritage Park.
