LIMA — The eighth annual 92.1 The Frog’s St. Jude Partners in Hope Concert will be held today at The Ohio Theatre. Nashville musician, Eric Paslay headlines the concert, with popular local group Nashville Crush opening.
“Eric Paslay has had one No. 1 hit with ‘Friday Night,’ and then he’s had three top 40’s. So four total hits solo. He’s had four hits on his own and he’s written for Jake Owens, Rascal Flatts and Eli Young Band,” said Dave Woodward, program director of Lima’s New Country 92.1 The Frog. “We’ve very excited to have Nashville Crush. They usually pack the house and people know that they guarantee a good time.”
While the concert provides a good time for those attending, the main reason is to bring attention to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
“Lima has a rich history of supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. If you go down to St. Jude, you’ll see a wall of donors and many of them are from Lima. The telethon was on WLIO for years and then in the ‘90s or early 2000s it went away. We were offered to do it as a radio station. It’s a very big honor for us because it’s a market-exclusive thing. We are the only station in this area that works hand in hand with St. Jude, officially. We’re really proud of that,” said Woodward.
For the last two years, the station has raised approximately $67,000 for St. Jude.
“So far, we still have money coming in, but it looks like we are at $37,000 for the radiothon, which is pretty good,” said Woodward.
The importance of supporting St. Jude is not lost on Woodward or the Lima community.
“St. Jude shares their research protocols for free with all medical facilities. So many of the protocols they’ve developed in Memphis at St. Jude have helped people in this area. So we very much feel that it’s a local cause because of that,” said Woodward. “It’s an honor to be a part of the radiothon and concert.”
