LIMA — The Ahl Family Easter Dinner will provide an Easter dinner with all the trimmings for the community. The family in in its second year of taking the helm of the Easter dinner from the Ellis family.
“It was an honor to be asked to take it over. They [Ellis family] worked so hard for 25 years to create it for it to be successful. Two years ago we did it together and they taught us how to do everything, how to cook everything, and then last year was our first year alone to do it,” said Mindi Ahl.
The Ahl family is known for philanthropy, but Easter is very special to them.
“Obviously the reason we said yes is to share the love of Christ. On Easter, we believe that Christ gave his life for us, so it’s the least we can do is give up our holiday for the community for those that don’t have a place to go. We want them to feel loved, we want them to feel important and valued and not lonely on a holiday that might make them sad if they didn’t have anyplace to go,” said Ahl. “We want people new to the community to come to meet someone new and start a friendship through it.”
Volunteers will be serving ham, mashed potatoes, green beans and rolls. Lakeview Farms donates the desserts. There will be milk, pop, water and coffee.
“We have 50 volunteers, which is awesome. We haven’t struggled either of the years that we have done it. It’s amazing how giving people in the community can be,” said Ahl.
The Easter Bunny will be there as well, passing candy and posing for photos.
