MIDDLE POINT — Huggy Bear Campground has been raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for five years, raising $285,000 so far. The sixth annual fundraiser is about to begin.
“It’s open to everyone if they just want to come and have a burger and enjoy some music, or there’s cornhole tournaments, a tractor pull, mystery safe, lots of different raffles. Lots of things going on, but they can come for a little bit and stay as long as they like,” said Vicki Otto, event chairman. You do not have to camp there to participate.
The campground has pulled out all stops on raffles and giveaways.
“This year we have a golf cart we are giving away again on Saturday night, $20,000 cash drawing and a 50/50 drawing that will be done on Saturday night. They will all be at 11 p.m. Saturday night, and no need to be present to win. Tickets can be purchased at Huggy Bear Campground in the store up until the time of drawing,” said Otto.
There will be a lot of live music.
“The music will start Friday night at 6 p.m. and go through Saturday night at midnight,” said Otto.
Otto is most proud of the money the campground has raised.
“Last year we raised $90,000. That was just amazing,” said Otto.
The campground has found things that work and make money, so not a lot of new things are added.
“Everything is just going great, so we don’t change it much,” said Otto. “There’s definitely something for everyone. If they don’t have anything to do, that’s where they’ll want to be this weekend.”
