VAN WERT — The third annual Town Creek Live is this weekend. The festival includes music, gourmet food trucks, street performers, an art exhibit, art activities and a duck derpy for a chance to win $1,000.
“What we are trying to do is we are trying to create a community festival that encompasses everything cultural that we can think about. We have live music, we have an interactive art exhibit, we have art activities, we have street performers, we have food, just something a little bit different to celebrate our cultural identification,” said Hope Wallace, director of the Wassenberg Art Center.
The committee has closed down Central Avenue, which adjoins the Wassenberg Art Center property.
“We will have gourmet food trucks on Central from various parts of Ohio and Fort Wayne, Indiana,” said Wallace.
The chance to win money is a big draw to the festival.
“Then we have the duck derpy. We call it that because it’s in Town Creek and often there’s only a few inches of water in the creek, so sometimes we have to flood it to make the ducks go down. People can enter to win $1,000, $500 and $250, for whichever (duck) crosses the finish line first. These are rubber ducks. People can adopt them. Adoptions are live now, and will close on Saturday at 5 p.m. We launch them at 6:15 p.m. and around 8 p.m. the winners are announced,” said Wallace.
The art exhibit, “Town Creek Glow,” features luminaries that people have made.
“We’re going to have luminaries that people have made over the past few months hanging from the rafters, and we’ll have a nice play list, it’ll be nice and cool, and all of this artwork will be glowing. Just a chill space to hang out,” said Wallace.
