LIMA — Blues fans are in for a treat today and Saturday, as Jerry “Pickle” Felter, brings Pickle’s Blues Weekend to the Upper Lounge at Old City Prime.
“We have Chris Canas, of Detroit and Mike Wheeler, from Chicago. So we bring real blues,” said Felter. “They’ve both been playing the blues for most of their lives.
The Lima area is familiar with Pickle’s Blues Extravaganzas at Memorial Hall, hooking residents on blues music.
“When we did the Extravaganza, we would have between 700 and 800 people come in on Friday night and Saturday night would be 1,100 to 1,200 people. There are quite a few people here that certainly enjoyed live blues,” said Felter.
The Chris Canas Band won the Detroit Blues Challenge.
Wheeler has been playing around the Chicago area for years. He played with 28 different blues bands in one year.
“He’s well respected, so when they needed a guitar player, they call Mike Wheeler. He’s very, very good,” said Felter. “He performs all of his own music. He writes his own lyrics and songs and performs. It’s all original.”
The setting at the Upper Lounge at Old City Prime is a favorite for Felter.
“It’s a beautiful setting up there. It puts me in mind of old movies when Bogart and Greenstreet would go up and go into a night club and there is a floor show going on and people are all dressed up sitting at their tables sipping on their drinks and cocktails. It’s tremendous up there. It’s really cool,” said Felter.
Seating is limited however.
“It only holds about 100 people, so seating is limited and that’s why it is best for people to get their tickets ahead of time. They can go online at http://www.oldcityprime.com/live-entertainment and get them, stop up at Old City Prime after 5 p.m. and get them then, and if all seats aren’t sold by showtime, they’ll sell them at the door,” said Felter.
