Delphos Canal Days

Thursday through Sunday

A Toast to the City kicks off this weekend event starting Thursday evening. It features a full line of amazing wines, wonderful hors d’oeuvres from local bars and restaurants along with stage entertainment. Friday will include the Battle of the Businesses; Bourbon Tasting Event, a new event this year; and evening music by “Billy Likes Soda.” Saturday starts out with a golf outing, bingo and car cruise-in, golf cart poker run and Krendl Magic. Saturday night’s entertainment will include Derek Alan Band and AC/DC Tribute Band. The Canal Days 5K starts Sunday morning followed by the Grand Parade at 2 p.m. and then entertainment by Flat Bottom Boys, a BMX bike show and the grand prize drawing. Lima Senior Homecoming Week Parade

5:45 p.m. Friday

Gates to the stadium open at 5:30 p.m. A Homecoming Parade is planned to begin at 5:45 p.m in the parking lot east of Lima Senior before the Friday, Sept. 16 football game. The parade will move down High Street and into Spartan Stadium, where parade participants will take a lap around the track. The Spartans will take on Oregon Clay at 7 p.m. The Homecoming Court will be recognized and King and Queen crowned before the game at 6:30 p.m. Tickets to the football game must be purchased online at www.limaspartannation.org/tickets/.

An Evening with Journalist, Producer and Author Daniela Pierre-Bravo

7 p.m. Friday

The Lima Central Catholic Educational Foundation will host “An evening with journalist, producer and author Daniela Pierre-Bravo” at Lima Central Catholic High School, 720 S. Cable Road in Lima. After graduating from Miami University, Pierre-Bravo was accepted into NBC’s Page Program in New York City, working on shows like “Saturday Night Live” and “Jimmy Fallon” and eventually became a successful booking producer and reporter. She has appeared on the “TODAY Show,” “Morning Joe,” “The View,” “MSNBC,” “Cheddar,” and more. Tickets are $15 and include gourmet desserts by Chef Alisa McPheron ‘86, wine, beer and other refreshments. All proceeds from this event go to the LCCEF and its mission to provide financial aid to students.

Shawnee UMC Homecoming Weekend Events

Friday through Sunday

Shawnee United Methodist Church will hold Homecoming Weekend events over three days, Friday Sept. 16 through Sunday, Sept. 18 at the church, 2600 Zurmehly Road, Lima. Events will include Family Game Night from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday; Inspirational Speaker Fest with continental breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday; Gaga Ball and Cornhole tournaments along with a Food Truck Festival, 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday; Celebration of Shawnee UMC Haiti missions with a breakfast at 10 a.m. between services Sunday. Safety City Open House

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday

Officer Mericle will be opening the doors to Safety City for an Open House at 700 S. Collett St. in Lima. This free event will have activities for children, free food and more.
