Scramble at the Grandstand

LIMA — After a week of carefully exhibiting livestock, junior fair exhibitors will have the chance to let loose and chase after animals as the popular livestock scramble returns to the Allen County Fair.

The event is open to children of all ages, who will enter the Grandstand Thursday to see who can wrangle loose chickens, sheep and calves the fastest.

The livestock scramble, which resembles a greased pig contest, was introduced to the Allen County Fair in 2018 as a fun departure from the more serious atmosphere of livestock exhibits.

The youngest children (8 years old and younger) will get the chance to chase after a pack of chickens, while older junior fair exhibitors may register for the sheep scramble (ages 9-14) or the calf scramble (ages 15-18).

There is no fee to participate. But space is limited, so registration is required. Prospective participants should find registration and release forms in the fair administration office, available until the start of the scramble or slots are filled.

All participants must be Allen County residents.

Spectators are welcome at the grandstand for free starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25.
