VAN WERT — Music fans are in for some excitement at 7:30 p.m. today at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center. Craig Wayne Boyd, who won The Voice competition in 2014, and the country duo Smithfield is in Van Wert.
“This is going to be an interesting evening,” said Tafi Stober, marketing director for Niswonger Performing Arts Center.
Craig Wayne Boyd was originally scheduled to perform in January, but weather prevented him from leaving Nashville, Tennessee at that time.
Boyd was on Team Shelton when he won The Voice competition in 2014, although he had been with Team Stefani at one point during the competition as well. His eclectic voice made him comfortable on either team.
“He is not just country, he’s gospel and rock, and what makes him amazing is he fuses country and rock together to create his own sound,” Stober said. “Some concerts you go to and they don’t change from song to song. With his style you will hear differences from what he sings.”
Opening for Craig Wayne Boyd is new country duo Smithfield. They are making a name for themselves in the country music genre with their hit “Good ‘Ol Days.”
Smithfield was founded in 2011 and is comprised of childhood friends Trey and Jennifer. Smithfield has opened for artists such as Scotty McCreery, Jana Kramer, Dustin Lynch and Craig Campbell.
“They are a pretty incredible duo. Exciting to have them open up, adding spice into the evening,” Stober said.
