LIMA —Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Stites are celebrating 65 years of marriage with a train ride to all national parks out west.
Stites and the former Clara Louise Lundy were married September 22, 1956, at the Church of the Nazarene on Elizabeth Street in Lima.
They are the parents of five children, Kay (Steve) Hatcher, of Lima; Kimberley (Tim) Fetter, of Lima; Karla (Bill) Thomas, of Wapakoneta; Gene (Suzy) Stites Jr., of Lima and Greg (Susan) Stites, of Huntsville. They have 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
Clara and Eugene Stites founded Stites Variety Store and still pitch in to help when it’s needed, said Kay Hatcher. Officially, though, the couple is retired.
