Mark Figley: Left keeps provoking violence

When Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, or AOC for short, calls out Tucker Carlson and Fox News for “incitement of violence,” it’s time to take a closer look at who is really doing the inciting across the American political landscape. One doesn’t have to look far to find examples.

AOC’s comments came on the heels of female swimmer Riley Gaines’ harrowing experience at San Francisco State University, where she was verbally and physically assaulted after giving a speech on behalf of Save Women’s Sports. Gaines, an outspoken critic of allowing transgender athletes to compete in NCAA women’s sports, ultimately fled to safety in a classroom, where she was barricaded for some three hours by hostile protesters who considered demanding ransom money in exchange for her release.

It used to be that those on the left concealed their intentions, yet one need only look at Jane Fonda to see how this has changed. Back in 1972, “Hanoi Jane” proudly positioned herself behind a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun to make a statement against American involvement in a nasty war. But on a recent episode of ABC’s “The View,” Fonda boasted that women would not retreat on abortion rights. If protests and marches weren’t enough, she smirked, “Well, I’ve thought of murder.” Being a media darling, Jane got a pass for her outrageous remarks and will most assuredly make similar comments again.

Then, less than a week after a transgender male gunned down six people at Nashville’s Covenant School, Wyoming Democrat state Rep. Karlee Provenza implicitly called for more gun violence against those who oppose the “trans folks” agenda.

In a coded reference to Antifa, Provenza posted a Facebook image of an elderly woman named “Auntie Fa” carrying a rifle in the name of protecting the transgender community from “fascists and bigots.” In 2020, Provenza ran as a moderate promising to protect gun rights. Since that time, she has taken extremist positions opposing abortion restrictions and condemning a church elder for exercising his First Amendment rights at the University of Wyoming in opposition to radical transgender ideology.

Similarly, LGBT activist Thomas J. White took to TikTok threatening anyone who would prevent him from entering women’s bathrooms and daring parents to try to protect their children. White, who calls himself “Tara” and identifies as a “baby fetishist,” posted a video where he told opponents “if you want to die on that hill — of righteousness and moral majority — then go right ahead. It will be the last mistake you ever make.” White told others within the LGBT community to “Go out and buy a gun because the time to act is now.” Such words leave little to the imagination.

One final act of recent leftist violence incitement occurred outside a “family-friendly” drag show in Fort Worth, Texas, when Antifa militants assaulted police and pepper-sprayed protesters praying outside the venue. The group has reportedly been disrupting such protests for a year.

Despite the multitude of efforts to escalate violence, the Biden Department of Justice has taken few if any measures to deter them. If anything, through its silence, it has signaled that it fully supports them.

Since the May 2022 leak of the Supreme Court draft opinion to overturn Roe v. Wade, at least 84 pregnancy centers and 147 Catholic churches have been attacked in the U.S. According to The Daily Signal, only four people in Florida have been prosecuted in relation to this violence by Attorney General Merrick Garland.

In modern-day America, one can make outrageous, false and escalatory statements in the name of free speech, so long as it passes the litmus test of the left. Those who deviate or speak truth are subject to any action deemed appropriate to silence them. This is undeniably a philosophy based upon totalitarianism; regularly practiced by the likes of Mao, Stalin and Castro.

History shows that these despots all used the incitement of violence to achieve complete and total control of the masses. The American left, in turn, worships them as heroes, heaping fake praise upon democracy, while inciting far more violence than the right ever could. And until we return to a system of governance based in reason and civility, this will continue to be the chilling truth for us all.
