Mark Figley: Document timeline is suspect

With the recent discovery of classified government documents in the possession of Joe Biden, one thing has become apparent. On the heels of concealing the damning elements associated with son Hunter Biden’s laptop computer during the 2020 presidential campaign, “Hidin’ Biden” has further mastered the art of secreting information prior to the 2022 midterm election.

On Jan. 9, it was first reported that a set of approximately 10 classified documents was discovered at the Chinese-funded Penn Biden Center in Washington that Joe used during his time as vice president. Interestingly, Biden’s attorneys just happened to come upon the materials on Nov. 2 (six days before the 2022 midterm election) as the office space was being vacated. Some 68 days then elapsed before the story went public. The documents were turned over to the National Archives on Nov. 3, but the White House has since avoided questions at every step along the way.

Just what information was contained in the documents is unclear, but some reports have indicated that they significantly referenced China and Ukraine, two subjects that continue to stubbornly hang over Biden like stink on excrement.

Additional sets of classified “Obama-Biden administration records” were mysteriously discovered by counsel in the personal library at Biden’s Wilmington, Delaware, residence on Dec. 20. Then on Jan. 11, documents were discovered in a room adjacent to his Wilmington garage. Later that same date, surprise, surprise, more documents were found at Biden’s residence. This leads one to wonder how many similar “inadvertently misplaced” discoveries are still to come. Does Joe even know?

Unlike presidents, who have the legal authority to possess classified materials and to declassify them, vice president Biden had neither. For his part, he confidently noted that the garage at his Wilmington residence is kept locked with his classic 1967 Corvette, adding, “It’s not like they’re sitting out on the street.”

Biden added that people know he “takes classified documents and material seriously.” That must explain why his upstanding son Hunter was renting the residence for $50,000 a month (an issue for another day) giving him ready access to documents there and at the Biden Center.

And what of Hunter’s Chinese secretary, hookers and questionable associates/foreign agents who may have been granted similar access to these materials when visiting him at any given point in time? What could possibly go wrong?

Considering the gravity of this situation, Attorney General Merrick Garland was left with no choice but to appoint a special counsel to investigate the matter.

Now, Biden, who said on CBS “60 Minutes” regarding similar allegations against Trump, “How could that possibly happen, how could anyone be that irresponsible?” faces even more damning allegations.

This scenario should concern all Americans, since Garland may ultimately determine the next president of the United States. It all raises questions. What prompted the search for the Biden documents? When did the justice department first learn of the documents? Did Biden discuss this matter with Garland? And lastly, did the attorney general assist in concealing the document story prior to the midterm election?

Garland’s Justice Department is suspect to say the least, with its lack of transparency as it relates to attacks on parents questioning school boards, failure to protect Supreme Court justices and its examination of events surrounding Jan. 6.

These factors do less than instill confidence, to say the least. Stay tuned.
