They call me a libtard simply because I care about other people. They call me a libtard as a way of putting me down because I feel for the fate of others. I have seen and read all the incendiary remarks targeting anyone who professes the idea that they may possess a caring heart for someone born into a situation less fortunate than the place that I find myself in.

News reporters, broadcasters, podcasters and all-news-all-the-time channels tell us the world is a rotten place. To quote an old adage: “If it weren’t for bad news, we’d have no news at all.”

Now that winter’s behind us, I got to thinking about how the season began. For me, always a lover of travel, a great time to get away is between Christmas and New Year’s, just right for heading in a southerly direction with my trusty navigator Lady Jane. Over time, I’ve traveled, borrowing a movie title, in trains, planes and automobiles, but I think road trips are my favorite. There’s never an extra charge for a second bag tossed in the trunk, and the seats are much wider.

Recently I have found myself shopping for birthday gifts for many family members, including my husband and multiple nephews, all of whom have March birthdays. Luckily for me, they are spread out with a birthday seemingly every week, giving me time to look for the perfect gift for each of them.
