Ottawa - Urban A. Kaufman, 88, died at 12:15 p.m. March 10, 2010, at Putnam County Ambulatory Care Center, Glandorf.
He was born Aug. 18, 1921, in Ottawa to Edward and Veronica Schroeder Kaufman, who preceded him in death. On July 5, 1952, he married Rita Jostpille, who survives in Ottawa.
Mr. Kaufman retired from Imco, Columbus Grove, and had been a carpenter. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the infantry from August 1944 to July 4, 1946, in the Third Division in the European Theater, where he received the Bronze Star. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9142 and American Legion Post 63 and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1757 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2234, all in Ottawa.
Survivors also include a son, Gerald (Vickie) Kaufman, of Ottawa; a daughter, Joyce (Ed) Bailey, of Ottawa; five grandchildren, Mallory Kaufman, Michelle Kaufman, George Schaub Jr., Kyle Adair and Brandon Baker; a great-grandson, Cameron Kaufman; two brothers, Raymond (Elma) Kaufman, of Ottoville, and Ralph (Margaret) Kaufman, of Ottawa; a sister, Mildred Brinkman, of Glandorf; and a sister-in-law, Helen Kaufman, of Leipsic.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Arthur, Edwin, Leonard and Elmer Kaufman; two sisters, Bertha Gerdeman and Mary Kaufman; two brothers-in-law, Otto Gerdeman and Vincent Brinkman; and two sisters-in-law, Ann Kaufman and Lidwina Kaufman.
Memorial Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, with military rites by American Legion Post 63 and VFW Post 9142. Father Matt Jozefiak will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the church cemetery as the body has been donated to Wright State University, Fairborn.
