Gas leak forces business to evacuate

VAN WERTNumerous businesses were evacuated after a contractor struck a 6-inch gas line with a backhoe Wednesday afternoon near Van Wert.Peggy Ehora, Dominion spokeswoman, said the hit caused a natural gas leak about 1:40 p.m. at the intersection of South Shannon Street and West Ervin Road. The gas was turned off and the scene cleared shortly after 7 p.m., with repairs continuing into the night. Ehora said about 70 business and residential customers were affected.Van Wert fire chief Jim Steele said there were no injuries.
